This new report offers a revealing look at how educators are navigating the opportunities, challenges, and evolving expectations around AI in the classroom.
Faculty Concerns & AI Literacy
- 83% of faculty are concerned about students’ ability to critically assess AI-generated content.
- 80% say there is a lack of clarity on how AI can be applied in teaching at their institutions.
- Only 17% rate themselves as advanced/expert in AI literacy; 40% are just beginning.
Teaching & Assessment Transformation
- 64% believe AI will significantly change the role of instructors.
- 54% say current assessment methods are outdated due to AI; 13% call for a complete revamp.
- 81% cite critical thinking and learning facilitation as the top skills educators need in the digital age.
Opportunity vs. Threat
- 86% see themselves using AI in the future.
- 65% see AI as an opportunity; 35% as a challenge (U.S. and Canadian faculty skew more cautious).
Sentiment about AI’s overall impact on higher ed is mixed:
- 57% positive,
- 30% neutral,
- 13% negative.
Institutional Barriers
- Only 4% are fully aware of comprehensive AI governance policies at their institutions.
- Just 6% believe their institution has provided sufficient AI training resources.
